Artigiana Costruzioni manufactures a wide range of rockfall barriers; designed and built with a similar architecture, the barriers are tested and available in type-approved versions for energies in a range of 100 to 3000 KJ.
The BR, RT and AC codes identify the three series or boulder barriers of standard production. They identify the containment net for the barriers proper, which can be made using:
- rope-net panels made with rings of the continuous strand type concatenated to each other at six contact points, coded "AC" (Concatenated rings);
- panels of wire-rope net intertwined in a diamond pattern and knots fastened with a special high-strength steel clamping knob of "BR" type (Reinforced clamping knob).
- rope-net panels made with concatenated rings of "RETICO" type, coded "RT", with four or six contact points.
The support and connecting structures of the BR, RT and AC barriers are made with the same architecture but differ in the type of holding net.
Normally, the structures employ ST 52 (Fe 510) structural steel elements of HEA or HEB type of suitable size and with the appropriate accessories.
BARRIERS of BR SERIES
The barriers of the BR series are used where limited energy absorption is required (max. 750 KJ) on slopes or grades. They are simple and fast to install, and they require little maintenance.
The energy dissipation of this type of barriers is provided, in addition to the flexibility of the panels, in a decisive way by the braking systems installed upstream and laterally of the barrier.
The support structure consists of HEA 140/160 structural steel elements and of particular baseplates of suitable size anchored on plinths or into the rock. The structure is galvanized or coated with green paint, while the intercepting structure is made up of panels of 8-mm-diameter wire-net rope meshed in a diamond-shaped pattern, with the knots fastened with reinforced steel clamping knobs.
To intercept small rockfalls, the panels are coupled in the factory with a net with hexagonal meshes made with 3-mm double-twisted steel wire and strong zinc plating.
Guy ropes and suitable accessories complete the structure of the BR barriers. All the materials used are new, certified and protected by zinc plating against corrosion.
BARRIER of RT and AC SERIES
The barriers of the RT and AC Series are required in areas where large rockfalls are likely along slopes and rock faces, and where individual rockfalls can reach energy levels higher than 1000 KJ.
Naturally, they also perform very well in cases where smaller energy dissipation is required.
As with all our barriers, they are designed and built taking into account the fact that they are often applied in rugged terrain, and therefore their operation, installation and maintenance are made simple.
The support structure consists of uprights of HEA or HEB 160/180 structural steel elements and of particular base plates of suitable size anchored on plinths or into the rock; the structure is galvanized or coated with green paint, depending on request. These supports have the exclusive purpose of supporting the net panels made of concatenated rings and ensuring their perfect position.
The intercepting structure is made up of rope panels of concatenated rings with six contact points of new design and galvanized.
Guy ropes and suitable accessories complete the structure of the barriers of the AC and RT series. All the materials used are new, certified and protected by zinc plating against corrosion.
In case of impact, most of the energy is absorbed by the panels, which dissipate it by elastoplastic deformation. The stresses are also transmitted to the suspension and base support ropes, and to the uphill and lateral guy ropes, the latter provided with particular braking devices designed to dissipate the kinetic energy.
The uphill and lateral anchoring means, consisting of double-twisted spiroid wire-rope with eye loop and protection thimble, are of appropriate size and are of great importance in the complex of the structure, since all the stresses absorbed by the guy ropes are transmitted to the anchoring means.
To intercept smaller rockfalls, the panels can be coupled in the assembly phase with a net with hexagonal meshes made with 3-mm double-twisted steel wire and strong zinc plating.
